Can I avoid getting swatted by malicious gamers online?

Some gamers that I play with mentioned using a VPN to enhance their performance. I want one for myself, but I am a bit concerned about being swatted by other gamers. It sometimes gets a bit toxic in multiplayer games. Will a premium VPN protect my IP address or prevent this?

Swatting happens when a fellow gamer finds out your personal info, and swatting isn't uncommon in toxic gaming environments. Thankfully, a VPN can mask your personal info when doing anything online - even gaming. When you use a VPN, your IP will be automatically hidden for other players, as it will show the IP of your VPN server, so you'll be safe from swatting.
