Can I legally access a blocked News media outlet website using a VPN?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi there. I am a British expat living in a country where there is heavy press censorship, and therefore I cannot access the news media outlet website that I grew accustomed to reading back home. Is it legal for me to use a VPN to access this website?

Of course! Bypassing geo-blocked content is one of the main reasons for the rise in popularity of VPNs (in addition to improved security while browsing). Due to legal reasons, some news media outlets might be restricted or outright banned in certain countries, making the residents in the country unable to access the content. However, you can always get a VPN that sets your virtual location to a country where this content isn't geo-restricted, allowing you to view and listen to important news.
