What are some ways to prevent a ransomware attack while using a VPN?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi. I have recently bought a VPN with the hopes of it being able to protect me against all sorts of malware. However, I have heard from a friend that apparently it does not provide complete protection against ransomware. Therefore I am looking for best practices to follow while using the VPN to make sure I am protected. Anyone have any insight? TYIA.

Here are some ways to prevent a ransomware attack while using a VPN:

  • Use Google's Safe Browsing extension to scan the web for malware. This will make sure that you don't download any malicious files.
  • Use premium antivirus software instead of downloading it yourself. It is because premium antivirus software has more features to detect ransomware quickly and accurately.
  • Install the latest updates on all devices connected to your network. This includes Windows or Mac computers, smartphones, laptops, and other devices connected to your network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cables.
  • Ensure you have strong passwords for all accounts on every device connected to your network (including email accounts).
