Will a VPN make my gameplay experience poor when playing?

I’ve read a lot about other gamers using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for security when playing online. Others complain about how it makes their gaming experience slow because of the connection. I want one so I can maintain privacy, but I don’t want a slow connection.

If the VPN server is fast and has a good connection with your game's server, then it won't make your gaming experience any worse. In fact, in some cases, it might even make it faster. However, if you connect to a VPN in, let's say the Netherlands, but the game's server is in the USA, then your connection will be slower and you will experience high latency (or ping).
