Is it safe to use a company VPN and access documents on public Wi-Fi?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi, I work remotely for an online company, and they gave us VPNs to do research and qualitative data analysis. However, there are people building next to my house, and they're incredibly loud. I struggle to concentrate. I want to go to a coffee shop to work in the morning, but I'm not sure if the VPN would be secure enough to encrypt my research on a public network. Help? Would it be secure, or are there additional steps that I should be taking to ensure data security?

Public Wi-Fi is unsafe, and using it without a VPN increases the chance for hackers to sneak into your device and steal the content of your documents. For this reason, it is advisable to use a VPN as an additional security step. It connects you to a private network where your data is encrypted. Plus, it provides you safe connection for remote public work.
