62,000 New Mexicans are Affected by Data Breach at Healthcare Company

Following a cyber-attack against a New Mexico-based healthcare insurance provider, the personally identifiable information (PII) of more than 62,000 people from the United States may have been exposed. True Health New Mexico was affected by the incident. It provides a variety of health insurance services to small and big businesses in the United States southwest region.

In a recent security notice, the business stated that an authorized third party got access to the firm’s IT systems in early October. According to the data breach notification, security experts discovered that the compromised files may have included information on current and previous True Health New Mexico members, select clinicians, and certain former New Mexico Health Connections members.

Names, dates of birth, home addresses, email addresses, insurance information, medical information, and Social Security numbers might have been among the data affected. According to the HIPAA Breach Portal, more than 62,000 New Mexico citizens have been notified of the breach.

True Health stated that they have no proof that any personal information has been abused at this moment. To assist secure its members’ data, the insurance is providing all possibly impacted people with a complimentary 24-month credit monitoring membership.

The True Health breach of security incident comes at the end of another tough month for healthcare data breaches in the United States. In November alone, the US Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for enforcing HIPAA, got more than 30 breach notices from healthcare companies across the United States.
