Can I use VPNs to protect from ransomware for my business?

Hello everyone, does anyone know if using VPNs can help protect against potential ransomware attacks? I run a small business and currently have antivirus set up on all the office computers but we've recently hired a bunch of new employees and I'm worried the antivirus might not be enough on its own. Would using a VPN be an added layer of protection?
