Can using a VPN prevent killware attacks?

Asked 2 years ago

Hello. I own a lot of Internet of Things (IoT) devices at home, including a heating system. However, I am concerned after learning about how cybercriminals are able to hack into these devices in order to inflict harm onto its users in the form of killware attacks. I therefore am looking for ways to protect my devices against this type of attack. Anyone know if using a VPN is effective for this? TYIA.

If a VPN does not offer any kill-switch features, users can open the app and then disconnect from the VPN anytime. This could lead to the user information being vulnerable to killware attacks.

Killware is malware that prevents you from closing or rebooting your device, which is exactly what you need before you can use your computer in order to delete the malicious software.
