Do I need a VPN if websites are encrypted by HTTPS?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi there. I am curious to know if it is necessary for me to buy a VPN if HTTPS already uses TLS encryption? Is my browsing not secure enough with HTTPS alone? Thanks for responses!

HTTPS is a standard web protocol that encrypts the data you share from your computer to the web server. However, it doesn't encrypt the data stored on the server or what gets sent back to your computer. That means if you're visiting a website that uses HTTPS, but SSL or TLS doesn't encrypt it, you're not sending any information over the internet.

That said, if you're visiting a website that uses HTTPS and SSL/TLS encrypts it, it is still possible for someone else to intercept your traffic (for example, if an attacker can capture your password through advert malware). In this case, using a VPN when accessing this site would help protect against this kind of attack.
