Will using a VPN protect me against a scareware attack?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi there. My laptop was recently infected by scareware which was very challenging for me to uninstall. For this reason, I am looking for ways to prevent a scareware attack from happening again. Is there anyone who uses a VPN who knows if it provides protection against scareware? Thanks in advance!

Scareware is malware that tricks you into thinking your computer has been infected with a virus or spyware. The scareware maker then tries to scare you into paying for their product to remove the supposed infection.

A VPN will help you protect yourself against scareware by routing your traffic through an encrypted tunnel, which makes it impossible for the scareware to see what sites you are visiting. It also encrypts your internet connection so that even if you get infected with a virus or scareware, Scareware can't access any of your files or information.
