Will split tunneling encrypt my access to a home network?

Asked 2 years ago

Good evening, I've been looking at VPNs with split tunneling features, and I don't understand how this will increase security. What if I'm working remotely in a coffee shop and decide to access another device of mine, but the tunnel splits leaving either A. my PC vulnerable on a public network, or B. my other device that I've connected to becomes exposed?

The split tunnel is a valuable feature as it decreases bandwidth usage. However, some of your data may get exposed to the digital environment. Moreover, ideal VPN services like SurfShark allow you to add the site addresses that you want untouched. You can specify what data should bypass the VPN tunnel and what should transfer through it. Therefore, it gives you safe access to both; your PC on a public network and your remotely accessed device simultaneously.
