ISP bandwidth throttling: Should I invest in a VPN for my office staff?

Asked 2 years ago

Is investing in a premium VPN service for my office staff ideal if I want to avoid bandwidth throttling from my ISP? Right now, my employees are raising complaints about slow internet and saying they struggle to load pages when everyone is in the office. I obviously wish to improve the efficiency of their work, but I cannot change ISPs just yet, not without a massive clawback fee.

ISP bandwidth throttling is a real thing. ISPs are increasingly using tools like Deep packet inspection (DPI) to identify and block specific types of traffic, including P2P and torrenting. The problem is that they don't always do this correctly, resulting in issues like slow speeds and dropped connections. If you're an established company with a large user base, it's probably worth the investment to cover all their devices with a VPN. These services have been designed to get around ISP restrictions without slowing your browsing experience.
