Can a VPN be used to prevent Discord malware?

Hi there. I regularly play games on Discord, and I have recently heard from another user that malware can be spread on the platform by users through file uploads. I therefore am looking for ways to guard against Discord malware. Does anyone know if a VPN works for this? TYIA.
