Does using a VPN on my phone use cellular data?

Asked 2 years ago

Hello. I have observed that my cellular data usage has increased when I started using a VPN on my phone. Is it possible that using the VPN has increased my usage of cellular data? If so, are there ways to reduce the amount of data being consumed by the VPN? Thanks in advance for responses.

The short answer is yes, but it depends on the VPN app you use and your cellular plan. Some VPNs will use cellular data, while others may not. It all depends on which VPN service you're using and what your plan says about whether or not that VPN service can use cellular data.
